Pick Me!

What do you do when your local farm’s harvest schedule and your family’s ability to pick fruit don’t line up? We decided our answer was to go anyway and check out some alternative options.

What a joy – we had a quiet morning at the farm picking flowers and digging up potatoes. I finally had to stop the kids – we had dug up 30 pounds of potatoes and that was more than enough! Besides, I think I have the only kids in the world who don’t even like potatoes.

I really paid for the exertion once we got home. I spent the afternoon sitting quietly with tea, trying to simmer down the head and neck pain. In particular, using the pitchfork to unearth the potatoes stressed my neck and back muscles.

It was a great investment of time and energy, though. It was a new experience for all of us, and so much fun. Je ne regrette rien.
